The problem and difficulty of God's government of the universe is very much to the forefront these days. Disasters suddenly destroy not only property but many humain lives. The human heart is touched by this destruction, but above all by the loss of life, especially of innocent life. Apart from natural disasters, there are also diseases that cripple, maim and incapacitate; there is the question of man's inhumanity to man, wars, genocide, torture and brutal treatment of the innocent, so many evils and injustices that afflict the human race. For some, the difficulty is so great that they are led to a denial of the existence of a supreme, loving Being whom we call God who cares for his creatures. Rosmini boldly faces the many problems that man has encountered through the ages relative to divine Providence and its government of the universe. He puts forward answer to the basic questions: the origin and nature of evil, the distribution of goods and evils in the universe, the fundamental law that God's wisdom and goodness follows in governing the universe. Using reason based on revealed truths, Rosmini seeks to justify God in his actions. As with all his philosophical works, the reading is not always easy, but there are many consoling lights and powerfully argued explanations, which can challenge those who reject the existence of God, give food for thought for doubters, and strengthen the faith and, above all, the peace of those who already believe in the Supreme Being.
